Winthrop’s Healthcare Management concentration focuses on core business principles through a healthcare lens. You will prepare to become a healthcare leader with a deep understanding of value-based care, healthcare policy, population health and data-informed decision-making. The M.B.A. courses also impart skills in finance, operations, strategy development and other topics essential to overseeing healthcare organizations.

Throughout Winthrop’s M.B.A. in Healthcare Management program, you will learn from academic experts and healthcare executives who bring relevant experience to the online classroom. The program includes built-in micro-credentials in Business Analytics, Financial Analysis and Leadership in Organizations.

Healthcare Management Required Courses

This course provides a foundational understanding of the U.S. healthcare system’s structure, function, and dynamics, including the financing, delivery models, and regulatory environment. Students will explore the system’s historical evolution, complexity, and how stakeholders (e.g., patients, providers, payers, and policymakers) influence healthcare outcomes. Designed for aspiring healthcare leaders, this foundational course equips students with the knowledge and skills to navigate and manage within the complex, regulated, and rapidly evolving healthcare environment.

This course focuses on transforming healthcare delivery by driving quality improvement and organizational performance excellence. Students will explore the principles, strategies, and tools of quality improvement, the components of creating highly reliable organizations, and the interconnected nature of cost, access, and quality. This course prepares students to lead transformative efforts that improve quality, performance, and equity while ensuring healthcare organizations are agile and responsive to constant change.

Healthcare Management Elective Courses

Restricted to students with limited business experience or who wish to switch career paths. This internship integrates a student’s classroom learning with practical work experience.

The dynamics of leadership explored through theory, organizational learning and group dynamics, in-depth case study, diagnostic tools and self-development.
This capstone course explores current issues and trends in the rapidly changing arena of marketing, from both a theoretical and practical perspective. Instruction will include a selection of current readings, guest speakers and experiential learning projects that will require students to use concepts and tools learned in previous courses in the program. Creativity practices and innovation strategies will be applied in conjunction with the development of marketing strategies and tactics for an area business. Applied marketing analytics, especially as they relate to digital marketing and trends in social media, will also be covered
